How Can You Know if a Person Goes to Hell

The Cambridge Dictionary describes "hell" every bit: "in some religions, the place where some people are believed to go afterwards expiry to be punished forever for the bad things they take washed during their lives."
Hither is the list of individuals who are destined for hell as identified by different conventionalities systems: adulterers, those out of sequence with God's volition, condemned sinners, damned souls, disobeyers of God's laws, those who drifted away from God'south will, enemies of religion, evil souls, hypocrites, infidels, killers, liars, nonbelievers, rich people who lacked clemency, sinful people, those who dismissed God'due south messengers, unrepentant sinners, those who did not believe in a particular version of God, those who did not seek God, those who died in sin without repentance, those who excluded themselves from God, those who had not led their lives in accordance with tenets of goddess Maat, those who indulged in cruel acts, those who were not establish worthy, the wicked, etc.
The ancient Katha Upanishad points out:
"When all desires that surge in the heart
Are renounced, the mortal becomes immortal.
When all the knots that strangle the heart
Are loosened, the mortal becomes immortal."
Nosotros asked our console: Who goes to hell?
Sky and hell on world
Karen A. Foster, Government minister, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Nevada

This question presupposes a belief in the existence of heaven and hell and a belief in an afterlife. There is no one on earth who can say definitively whether there is any credence to these concepts, and there are widely divergent behavior on this topic within Unitarian Universalism, and beyond.
In the apocryphal gospel of Thomas, Jesus is recorded every bit saying, "the kingdom of heaven is within you." I remember what Jesus may have meant by this statement is that nosotros accept the opportunity to create our ain heaven and hell right where we are in this life. Nosotros have the potential past our actions, attitudes, the way nosotros motion through the globe and how nosotros treat each other, to create ourselves and the world as nosotros believe they should be. Farther, Jesus seems to imply that the choice is ours to brand of this opportunity what we will.
Passing stage
ElizaBeth Webb Beyer, Jewish rabbi

Gehenom (loosely translated equally "hell") is a state of beingness, not a place, where souls become cleansed, if necessary, to in one case once again return to Source. Souls may pass through, simply don't stay. Every bit the soul untangles from materiality, information technology becomes more aware. For those out of bear on with their inner cocky, enkindling to a higher awareness may cause tremendous strife, turmoil and discord. They include those who lived in a disharmonious state which causes internal friction (i.due east., filled with ego, pride, anger, etc.). These souls may be too spring up in their egos to take a transition towards the light of K-d. Those souls who lived a life in sync with their deeper selves, putting stock in their authentic cocky, find it easier moving through the soul's journey in the afterlife. According to Rabbi DovBer Pinson ("Jewish Wisdom on the Afterlife"), in time, all souls move towards heaven.
Make friends with heaven
Stephen R. Karcher, presiding priest, Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church

"When the Son of Homo comes in his glory," Scripture says, the nations will be gathered, and people separated based on whether they fed the hungry, gave beverage to the thirsty, welcomed strangers, clothed the naked, or visited the imprisoned. These merciful ones will then be led into an eternal age of blessedness: "Come up, you lot who are blest by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you lot from the foundation of the world." In contrast, we learn that the failure to evidence mercy aligns us with the demons and not with God. This alliance, as well, will leave u.s. with a plumbing equipment inheritance. Jesus teaches that if y'all forgive others, your Heavenly Father will forgive you. He continually reminds united states of how each is valued, and of how closely connected nosotros are, so much so that the mercy shown to others during our lives determines our destiny in the next.
Nosotros choose
Nancy Lee Cecil, Baha'i teacher

When people plough away from the guidance of God's Messengers and, instead, live according to their own ideas and desires, such a path retards their spiritual growth. Such individuals have chosen a spiritual void that is a "hell" of their own creation.
What other religions generally refer to as "heaven" and "hell," Baha'i'south believe are non literal places in the afterlife, with individuals going to one or the other place depending on whether they have led good or bad lives; rather, Baha'i writings explain heaven and hell as being symbolic representations of spiritual conditions of the soul — conditions people can be in at whatsoever fourth dimension, in this earth or the next. "Heaven" in reality is the joy experienced past a soul that is spiritually connected to God and following His righteous path, while "hell" is symbolized by the suffering a soul endures when information technology is spiritually remote from its Creator.
Those who plough their dorsum on Christ
Bryan J. Smith, lead pastor, Height Christian Church building, Sparks

Exercise only bad people get to hell? If I do good will the catholic scale tip in my favor? The Bible tells the states "There is no one righteous" (Psalm 3:10). This ways we're all inherently bad — we're all sinners. We can't practise enough good to outweigh the bad.
Rather than erasing hell in favor of a heaven that we tin can access through our own merit (which is impossible) we have to expect to Christ. The incarnate Christ paid our debt of sin through his cede on the cross. He paid our penalty so that nosotros may have access to God for all eternity. Submission to his rule and reign in our life frees u.s. from the shackles of sin and hell. Hell is populated by those that have turned their dorsum on God in this life by non accepting the complimentary gift of His grace through Christ.
Serious doubts exist
Kenneth Thousand. Lucey, philosophy/religion professor emeritus, University of Nevada

The concept of either Hell or Heaven presupposes homo beings take some type of post-death being. Associated with the concepts of Heaven and Hell are the accompanying notions of God and Lucifer, the Devil. Of course, not all religions endorse traditional Judeo-Christian concepts of God, the Devil, Heaven and Hell. It is certainly logically possible that humans have an afterlife even if traditional ideas of Heaven and Hell are mistaken. A faith such as Buddhism, for example, does non have those traditions, while endorsing a unlike concept of an afterlife (reincarnation). Christians believe those who are "saved" become to Sky, while everyone else is consigned to Hell, Limbo or Purgatory. As an agnostic about God et al., I merely don't know whether Heaven or Hell exists, and whether anyone ends up going to either one. Mayhap we make our Heaven or Hell on Earth by our value and life choices.
God's decision
Sherif A. Elfass, president, Northern Nevada Muslim Customs

In Islam the ultimate determination of who goes to sky and who goes to hell is left entirely to God, as He alone is the judge of people's hearts and deeds. The Quran describes some of the attributes of the people who will most probable enter hell. For example, those who pass up the signs of their Lord and their meeting with Him, hell is their reward for their disbelief and mockery of His signs and messengers (xviii:105-106). The hypocrites, who publicly declare they are believers but privately propagate against the religion, will be at the lowest level of hell (4:145). Those who commit atrocities, intentionally inflict harm on others, and spread corruption on earth will dwell in hell (13:25). The sinners, who did not apologize from their sins before expiry, or their bad deeds outweigh their good deeds on the day of judgement, will also sense of taste hell (20:47).
Divine love conquers all
Robert W. Chorey, curia moderator and chancellor, Roman Catholic Diocese of Reno

Hell is a state of being — a state of being utterly separated from God, therefore separated from love and from all others. Heaven is a state of being totally immersed in the presence of God and with all those who have loved as God. God desires all to be in union with God. This was made explicit through Jesus Christ.
When we consciously choose to non love; when we consciously choose to exist indifferent to the needs of those around usa, to the needs of cosmos; nosotros choose hell.
God'south mercy overcomes all. We trust in that infinite mercy and so we claim that nobody is in hell, because nosotros do not know what goes on at the moment of death, even for the most heinous of acts. God's dearest overrules all hate. When a heart desires from its depth that mercy, we trust God offers forgiveness.
We all exercise, from fourth dimension to fourth dimension
Matthew T. Fisher, resident priest, Reno Buddhist Center

In one sutra Buddha says, "When the average ignorant person asserts that there is a Hell (patala) down in that location, what he is saying is false and baseless. The word 'Hell' is a term for painful listen states" (South IV 306).
Rebirth is a funny thing. We feel many different births in the course of our Karmic Consciousness' path through existence in time and space. Through myriad rebirths, we all will deserve and suffer birth in hell. It is about unpleasant. We could be reborn in whatsoever of the six realms: the realm of gods, of demi-gods, of humans, of animals, of hungry ghosts, or in hell. The nature of our side by side nascence is adamant by our karma — our actions of body, speech and mind. Through different "births" we experience pleasant/painful reality, just only with Correct Understanding tin can we spiritually abound from every birth.
For about, hell is not permanent
Micheal 50. Peterson, northwest Nevada media specialist, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

In the short infinite allowed here it must exist understood that all of the kingdoms which 1 may inherit later his resurrection are kingdoms of glory, the Celestial, Terrestrial and finally Telestial being the everyman (one Corinthians 40-41). After their resurrection, the great majority of those who have suffered in hell will pass into this kingdom (telestial); the balance, cursed as sons of perdition, will be consigned to partake of endless woe with the devil and his angels (Doctrine and Covenants 76:84-85). Since those going to a telestial kingdom travel to their destination through the depths of hell, it follows that all those who alive a telestial police force will go to hell until redeemed by Christ, who holds the keys of death and hell (Revelation one:18). Some that are mentioned in the scriptures are the carnal, sensual and devilish who live after the manner of the world, adulterers, whoremongers and others. (Doctrine and Covenants 76:103).
Hell-like experience, but no permanent hell
Swami Vedananda, Hindu monk

Co-ordinate to ancient Hindu traditions, information technology is considered that the earth is a identify of balance, where expert and evil are present to a more or less similar extent. Higher up and below, in a spiritual sense, at that place are thought to exist heavens and hells with varying degrees of experience for the soul. Equally a result of their actions on earth, souls may temporarily experience these. None of these levels of existence are of a permanent nature, notwithstanding. Eventually the souls are again born on earth to proceed their journey toward illumination, which consists in the experience of the reality of God, the unlimited and eternal divine presence that is at the heart of everything. This is believed to exist the ultimate goal toward which every life is tending. Achieving this, which is described as unending satisfaction, there is nothing farther to exist desired or accomplished.
